I'm putting my foot down

Right, so I have finally given in and started to use both comment moderation and word verification. I hate to do this but I keep getting unwanted comments advertising porn or the like. I don't know what else I can do because moderating for weeks and weeks didn't deter them from 'commenting'. I hope you understand, so please don't let this extra step deter you too!

Hours

These are the photos that I have spent all semester working on. I can't believe how long it took me to print each one of these in the darkroom! But I would love to do some more. I gave the last one to my lecturer cause he had given me a print of his earlier this year. I have a few more sheets of paper that I can use to print. Which do you think I should do a few more of?

Anyway I can't say much more I have to get ready to go to work. Happy weekend everyone!

Lina Scheynius 2nd Book

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words regarding my essays and my sleep. Thank goodness my essays are out of the way now and I now only need to finalise my colour photography project that goes up for assessment on Wednesday.

One of the inspiring photographers that I reference in my statement for the project is Lina Scheynius. Her work is just so beautiful yet it has a certain tension about it that keeps the mystery from surfacing - if that makes sense. I am such a fan that I bought her 2nd Book that she advertises on her website. I didn't want to put off buying any longer cause the 1st one sold out like hot cakes.

If you want to get your copy in time for Christmas you better do it quick fast cause she closes up shop for the winter on November 20th.

I think I may want to start an indie-or-self-published-photography-book collection. Does anybody know where to get this book by Benedict Brink featured on the Russh blog?

Essay break

I had to take a break from my photography/modernism essay. I just read in a Frankie newsletter that the average person falls asleep in 7 minutes. I would like to meet this average person! I feel like I am lying there for 2 hours counting a zillion sheep. Mind you, I think P is faster than that average person. I'm pretty sure he is snoring within 5 minutes which just adds to my 2 hours thank you very much!

What I saw in Melbourne

The beautiful Metropolis bookshop

Some beautiful books that I want (That Francesca Woodman book was so tempting, but I just couldn't afford it that weekend!)

Overall, I didn't see much in Melbourne. Besides the stress of the wedding that I went there for, I managed to spend a few hours each end of the trip just charging through the streets. I wanted to see as much as possible. I zoomed through the NGV with P and then we ate three times at Nelayan, the Indonesian restaurant on Swanston St.

I adored Metropolis bookshop, and I thought the laneways were very cool - on a Sunday morning it was quite busy with 'brunchers' (like at the Soup place above). I need to go again for a longer period of time, and also spend more time with the family.

I felt a bit sentimental when the plane landed in Melbourne cause this is my Mum's hometown. I wish I could spend time exploring it again with her. She hasn't been there in 10 years and 17 for me. Maybe next time I wont bring such a bulky camera though. P say's that I looked so much like a tourist with my big camera that I stuck out like sore thumb - so does that I mean I look like a tourist everywhere?

P.S. Thank you everyone for your destination suggestions. Unfortunately this was such a chaotic weekend that I couldn't make it to all of them, but they will definitely be useful for next time.

Hello lovelies. I haven't had a chance to share details of my Melbourne trip on here, but I can assure you that I am a convert! At the moment I'm sneaking in a hello in between essay writing. I'm writing an essay on Modernism in Australia and how women were at the forefront of modernist art here.

Through researching it, it reminds me quite a bit of the contemporary Australian illustrators that are making it into magazines and such now. So here you can see work by Margaret Preston and Thea Proctor: the Kat MacLeods, and Kareena Zerefos' of the '20s and '30s.
